  • Description: The project LIVING LANDSCAPE solves the long-lasting need for recognition, valorization and promotion of the common cultural heritage of the Italian-Slovenian border area, represented by the Karst landscape. The LIVING LANDSCAPE project is innovative, because it places the emphasis on human activities and anthropogenic factors that have through centuries transformed the environment of Karst into its characteristic landscape form. The landscape is threaded both in its material and visible form as well as through its intangible, symbolic and mythical aspects. With the collaboration between the University, agencies for the protection of cultural heritage, local and provincial administrations and a Public Park Service Agency, the joint research, education and pilot activities of the project will provide new materials for the recognition and valorization of the world-known but still insufficiently exploited Karts landscape. At the same time materials that contribute to the decision-making on the conservation and sustainable development of the Karst landscape will also be produced (current issues on park administration, inscription in UNESCO). planned activities Effective coordination and management of the project; scientific research and complete specialist analysis of the cultural landscape of Karst (popular and scientific publications); efficient management and valorization of the cultural landscape of Karst; raising awareness of the wider public, especially the population of the border area, about the importance and the potentials for development of the Karst area (exhibitions, documentary film, education and workshops on "suhozid", workshops for children and adults); conservation of the specific heritage of Karst landscape through pilot activities (preliminary designs, catalog and museum); constant information of the public, press conferences. planned results Effective coordination and management of the project (continuous reports, 5 meetings of the Project Comittee); realization of three new job places; execution of the interdisciplinary researches and the presentation of research results to the wider public and to the scientific field (6 publications); execution of 8 workshops for the education of local population (children and adults) and 1 educational system; preparation of 3 preliminary designs; execution of two press conferences and one public meeting for informing and communicating with the public and recipients; preparation of one exhibition, formation of 1 digital catalogue and digital museum and also preparation of a documentary film.
