  • Description:
    The CLIMAPARKS project partnership is composed of nine partners - 5 Italian parks and 4 Slovenian parks. The Lead Partner of the project is the Triglavski narodni park. The Italian and Slovenian parks will make activities of research and awakeness to the public about the climate change, the conservation of biodiversity and a sustainable relationship for the environment in these protected area, on a global level. The project will enable a permanent network of workstations to compare the data among the parks. The Italian and Slovenian parks will raise the awareness about the significance for a responsible attitude towards the natural environment (information centres, training programs). These parks, through pilot projects, will analyze the visitors’ behaviour in protected areas respecting the environment. The slovenian region of Primorska, the Karst and mountain (Alpine) region take part to the project.

    Planned activities: Project management: the intensive cooperation between the nine parks in the implementation of various project tasks will allow the exchange of good practices and the strengthen of cooperation between Italy and Slovenia. Monitoring and analysis: the creation of a network for measurement and common observation, with available on-line data, will make possible that the parks could set up a solid base for comparative analysis. The analysis could be carried out for the first time inside the parks and among parks. A group of experts will develop a suitable methodology for this work package. Parks as an example of good practice: as model of good practices, the parks will implement pilot projects in the field of sustainable management of protected areas. In this way, the parks will develop the concept of visiting the parks being aware of the environment, becoming as well a model for the interested public. Sustainable visits and awareness (information centres’ network): All the parks involved in the project will inform the visitors about topics as the climate change, the importance of preserving biodiversity and the possibility that everyone could be more responsible for the environment. Activities will be introduced to inform and train visitors and other target groups on climate change, biodiversity, sustainable management and environmental issues in general. Communication strategy: The parks plan to organize joint activities in the communication field. Activities will be strengthen among the parks, with particular emphasis on raising awareness of the visitors.

    Expected results: Establishment or intensification of the partnership among the parks in Italy and Slovenia. Establishment of a long-term and comparative monitoring system on climate change, biodiversity and the flow of visitors to parks. Establishment of an information’s network with the project’s contents. Establishment and implementation of training activities and awareness of the public on climate change, biodiversity and environmental issues in general. Establishment of pilot projects in the field of sustainable management of protected areas, as examples of best practices for the interested public. Implementation of communication activities: two conferences, issue dedicated to the experts and the public, website, media publications, ecc.
