The project goal is to mitigate risks to the environment and biodiversity by implementing structural and intangible measures that are instrumental to improving the planning and management of cross-border sewage systems.
These measures include the modernization, renovation and expansion of wastewater management systems at the municipalities of Remanzacco, Cividale del Friuli, Buttrio and Brda, as well as study and research activities, exchange of experiences, sharing of best practices and dissemination of the project results also to a wider area in Slovenia and Italy (Veneto and Emilia Romagna regions).
This project (and other 5 linked projects submitted within the framework of the same call) will have a direct impact on the catchment area of the Isonzo river, which is recurrently affected by pollution because of a limited wastewater management capacity in the cross-border area. Polluted waters have in turn an adverse effect on the environmental balance of the entire Upper Adriatic.
