  • Description: This project envisages a systematic research on Roman and Medieval structures, which have been partially or totally submerged and on the finds in the area lying behind, along the coast strip between the mouth of the Timavo river and Piran-Pirano. This initiative is consolidated by the new prospects for research, conservation, enhancement and use of the archaeological sites: the landscape archaeology, aims at restoring the integrity and the common identity of landscape. To profit from the acquired knowledge, the project envisages the preparation of material to be used both inside the museums and outside, in the framework of a Coastal Archaeological Park or Itinerary related to land and underwater tourism. A series of teaching aids is going to be provided to the schools located in the territory: aerial mosaics provided with information about the location of port structures, photographs, explanations on the survey techniques used, the reconstruction of the coast with the various landings and port facilities, a computer console (a 3D reconstruction of the coast, attempts to reconstruct the same structures, etc.). All these instruments are major reference points in the tourist-cultural itinerary deriving from the research, and running from the mouth of the Timavo river to Sicciole saltworks. The project also envisages the preparation of informative material to be placed next to the studied sites, in a mirror-like relationship between the sites and the museum sections.
