  • Description: This project involves the organization of a series of sport and recreational events, to be carried out in order to celebrate the dismantling of the borders and the enlargement of the European Union. In this regard, for several years now various sport and recreational events have been taking place on the border in the Isonzo area. Yet, considering the importance of this historical event, the idea to carry out a macro-project in a wider and more diversified context has been conceived. “Eurogo 2004” requires a suitable planning and presentation, as well as an accurate management, and is a true quality leap as regards the events organized in this field. At the same time, a major contribution to lifting the many barriers raised in Gorizia because of the State border has been given by sport and recreational activities. The project consists of four main sport events: three non competitive events and environmental preservation activities, and one competitive event. The first one took place on Sunday 18th April, 2004, with a kayak and canoe descent on the Vipacco river, from Renče to Savogna, and on Sunday 2nd May 2004 the Števerjan/San Floriano – Gonjače march was held. In May, a young soccer tournament was also held and lasted two weeks: the tournament was attended by sixteen teams from the Gorizia province and from the nearby Slovenian towns and villages. The matches were held in several soccer fields in Gorizia and nearby. On Sunday, September 12th, 2004, the kajak regatta on the Isonzo river, from Solkan to Piedimonte, was the grand finale.
