  • Description: This multiannual project aims at promoting the culture and consumption of typical products (produced in the vegetable garden -“Orto”- and at sea - “Mar”) and typical restaurants (“Cogo”) in the province of Venice. Drawing on the water, land and fires of the province of Venice, “OrtoCogoMar” shall enrich our meals with all traditional flavours of the Serenissima Republic . Through a series of actions aimed at stimulating the consumption of typical products in the areas involved in this project, the agricultural produce that characterize the province of Venice and Slovenia shall be enhanced, thus carrying on a similar project undertaken in 2002. In particular, the vegetables, vine-growing/wine-making and dairy sectors shall be analyzed, as well as the fishery sector, which is especially developed in Venice. The first stage of the project concerns the historical research which led to the discovery of several documents about agricultural and cooking traditions and the prevalent lifestyles in Slovenia and in the countryside surrounding Venice. The project includes a publication on typical local products in the province of Venice and in Slovenia, the cooking styles and the productive traditions; such publication intends to provide information about the organoleptic characteristics of the products of the sectors involved, the methods of production, the historical-cultural aspects of typical products and their connection with the surrounding territory as well as a series of recipes. Three events have conferred visibility on the initiative: two food-tasting days in the town square, for people to have a taste of some typical vegetable and fish products. The third event concerned the participation in Biteg - the International Food and Wine Tourism Exchange”, which was held in Trento.
